MD7 – Borussias fly high – Have Dortmund and Mönchengladbach opened up a title race?

We were shocked when Bayern lost 2-0 at Hertha Berlin last week… unsurprisingly, we were therefore flabbergasted as the Bavarians lost 3-0 at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach this time around! A fantastic display from the away side sees them jump ahead of Bayern… who now sit 6th in the table. RB Leipzig, and Werder Bremen also recorded wins to leapfrog Munich… as did Borussia Dortmund, who now lead the way following their last-gasp winner at home to Augsburg. A Paco Alcacer and Jadon Sancho inspired performance leaves them 3 points clear at the top, and still unbeaten in all competitions.

At the other end of the table, Schalke managed to make it two Bundesliga wins in a row, and Hannover dispatched VFB Stuttgart in what could prove to be a relegation six-pointer. The Stuttgart hierarchy clearly thought so… Tayfun Korkut was replaced by Markus Weinzierl in the aftermath.

Along with all the action from the 7th matchday, we also discussed East German football and the difficulties it has faced since Germany’s reunification, which the country celebrated last week. Only five clubs from the former GDR have played Bundesliga football, whilst players from East Germany are under-represented in the national side.

As always, a very special thanks to our friends ‘Phre The Eon’ for the new theme music. Anyone interested can find them on Facebook.
