For Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund, the RevierDerby is the biggest game of the year. This time, it was Die Schwarzgelben who grabbed the bragging rights, beating their intense rivals 2-1 thanks to a Jadon Sancho winner. In the bigger picture, they now lead the Bundesliga by seven points and are looking more and more like champions every passing week.
That is not to say that the chasing pack is giving up hope. Borussia Mönchengladbach won their seventh conseuctive home game in the league to consolidate second place. Die Fohlen brushed their opponents, VFB Stuttgart, aside, and eventually won 3-0. Bayern Munich won by the same scoreline, with Nürnberg creating few problems for the Bavarians. The weekend also saw wins for Hertha Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen, whilst VAR was once again a talking point, this time in the draw between Mainz 05 and Hannover.
As ever, we dissect all of the weekend’s action before moving on to our In Depth section. With all eyes on the big game, we decided to delve a little deeper in to the RevierDerby to see what all the fuss is about.
As always, a very special thanks to our friends ‘Phre The Eon’ for the theme music. Anyone interested can find them on Facebook.
