MD12 – Düsseldorf thwart Bayern as Borussias lead the way

Who would have thought that with 15 minutes left, Bayern would end up sharing the points with Fortuna Düsseldorf this weekend? Dodi Lukebakio’s hattrick earned a hard-fought draw for the visitors and piled more pressure on an already creaking Bayern Munich. Following this result, they now lie nine points off the top of the table. Niko Kovac will need to improve things quickly if he is to end increasing speculation regarding the stability of his job.

There are no such worries for Lucien Favre’s Borussia Dortmund though. Their 2-1 win at Mainz was one of those games that needs to be managed to ensure the win, and that was exactly what they did. Still unbeaten, they are looking like a true title-chasing force. They weren’t the only Borussia to have a good week, as Mönchengladbach won 4-1 at home against Hannover. There were also wins for Eintracht Frankfurt, who continue to impress, and Schalke 04, who put five past Nürnberg. That moves the Gelsenkirchen outfit away from the relegation zone, with 2 points now separating four sides at the bottom. VFB Stuttgart, who lost 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen, will be hoping to climb from 18th position within the coming weeks.

As ever, we cover all of this action before moving on to our In Depth section. Following a suggestion on our Twitter page, we decided to look at the impact of foreign players in the Bundesliga. There have been many famous names from abroad to light up the league down the years, and each of the Buli Diaries members shares their personal favourite.

As always, a very special thanks to our friends ‘Phre The Eon’ for the theme music. Anyone interested can find them on Facebook.
